Jackson Housing Authority administers the federal Housing Choice Voucher program known as Section 8 for Jackson, Madison County, Tennessee, that was created under the Housing and Community Development Act. The U. S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) creates the regulations and requirements to implement the legislation passed by Congress. This federally funded rent supplement program is designed to help low-income families, the elderly and disabled to afford decent, safe and sanitary housing in the private market. Voucher recipients may obtain quality housing in the neighborhoods of their choice in Jackson, Madison County, Tennessee. The unit selected by the applicant must pass the required inspection guidelines and a required rent reasonable assessment.
