SECTION 8 HCV WAITING LIST INFORMATION
If you do not respond to the letter by the deadline given when your name approaches the top of the waiting list, the Jackson Housing Authority will assume that you are no longer interested in receiving housing assistance, and you will be taken off the waiting list. For changes to your Section 8 HCV Application, a Change of Information on Section 8 Pre-Application Form located on this page under “DOWNLOADS” must be brought or mailed to the Central Office. YOU COULD BE DENIED HOUSING ASSISTANCE IF YOU FAIL TO MAKE CHANGES TO YOUR APPLICATION.
JHA DOES NOT GIVE A STATUS OR POSITION NUMBER FOR YOUR HOUSING APPLICATION. ALL BALANCES OWED TO ANY HUD ASSISTED HOUSING PROGRAM SHOULD BE PAID IN FULL TO BE ELIGIBLE FOR THE SECTION 8 PROGRAM.
INFORMATION ON THE JACKSON HOUSING AUTHORITY’S SECTION 8 HOUSING CHOICE VOUCHER (HCV) PROGRAM FOR MADISON COUNTY
Jackson Housing Authority administers the federal Housing Choice Voucher program known as Section 8 for Jackson, Madison County, Tennessee, that was created under the Housing and Community Development Act. The U. S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) creates the regulations and requirements to implement the legislation passed by Congress. Funding is allocated to Public Housing Authorities and other State Agencies to administer the Housing Choice Program. The agencies are responsible for establishing local policies, determining eligibility, maintaining the waiting list, issuing vouchers, approving the rental unit, making housing assistance payments to the owners, and to ensure that participants and owners comply with the program rules.
This federally funded rent supplement program is designed to help low-income families, the elderly and disabled to afford decent, safe and sanitary housing in the private market. Voucher recipients may obtain quality housing in the neighborhoods of their choice in Jackson, Madison County, Tennessee. The unit selected by the applicant must pass the required inspection guidelines and a required rent reasonable assessment. JHA will execute a contract with the property owner to provide subsidy rental payments on behalf of the participant.
